Re-opened in 1988, Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo is today ranked the number one zoo in the U.S. (Child Magazine 2004) and recognized by the State of Florida as a center for Florida wildlife conservation and biodiversity.
Come see the wild world of Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo. With more than 2,000 animals, housed in 56 acres of
lush natural habitats, it's a diverse collection that is suited for our local climate. With engaging interactive exhibits visitors can enjoy close, but safe contact with many species in the Zoo. Guests can see most animals in one of eight habitat areas.
- Safari Africa and Ituri Forest
See some of the finest natural wildlife at close hand-- elephants, zebras giraffes, warthogs, various antelope, crowned cranes, cheetahs, pygmy hippos and more!
- Wallaroo Station
Designed for families, this area has tons of things to see and to do. It's an Australian adventure with cockatoos, bats, New Guinea singing dogs,
kookaburra, and more! Kids play in "The Billabong" water play area, pet the goats, ride a pony and the Tasmanian Tiger roller coaster.
- Asian Gardens and Sula west Gardens
Leopards, tigers and bears! Get up close to the many rare and endangered animals in the Asian Gardens. Watch the tigers explore the water's edge. Observe Indian rhinos at play, then come across a Clouded leopard and all her spots.
- Free Flight Aviaries
Enter a subtropic rain forest. Admire our feathered friends as they explore their free-flight habitat. You'll see colors galore - Red-legged Honeycreeper, a Purple Swamp hen, Toucan and Blue Bellied Rollers.
Enjoy peaceful waterfalls and the river running though the area and watch exotic and endangered birds soar overhead.
- Florida Boardwalk
See animals whose native habitat is Florida. From land, sea and sky, you'll be amazed at wonderful creatures that make Florida home. Don't miss the two interactive areas in the boardwalk.
Lowry Park Zoo is recognized as a state center for Florida species conservation and biodiversity.
- Florida Manatee & Aquatic Center
Descend below sea level for a look at Florida's beloved and endangered manatee. Twin observation pools allow for year round, up-close viewing. Check out the Manatee Hospital and observe our staff caring for manatees rescued from the wild.
- Primate World
Watch constant monkey business. See orangutans, chimpanzees and brilliant-colored mandrills. Catch glimpses of tiny marmosets and tamarins. Many of these primates are endangered and learn where they are from and what you can do to protect them.
- Birds of Prey
Also known as raptors, the birds of prey make amazing debuts in the daily "Spirits of the Sky" show.
