Ybor City is no longer just a National Historic Landmark District, as if that wasn’t enough. It is a 24/7 live, work, play community. Known for many years as Tampa’s Historic Latin Quarter, today’s Ybor is fast becoming the “creative hub” of the Bay Area.
“The City” is reborn with historic buildings renovated into modern offices for creative businesses such as advertising, architecture, interior design, community planning, engineering services, technology transfer and media production. Every month new low-rise, residential condos are springing-up revitalizing the Old Ybor Historic Neighborhood.
Families like to visit the “sweet spots” in a community that are vibrant and evolving - where locals in-the-know hangout. Ybor City’s sidewalk cafés and patio bars provide public space to meet, socialize and conduct business in a manner reminiscent of a European city. There is unique Mediterranean flair to our little “city within a city” that is a refreshing change of pace from Florida’s suburban sprawl.
One must "explore" Ybor City to fully appreciate it. There is no plastic mall directory, no strip mall signage and no big-box retail stores, just a walkable community with vintage fashion, funky retail and restaurants that have been in the family for generations. And, there is just the right amount of old world charm in our new age cache.
A local artist capturing Ybor’s most famous landmarks said it best, “Ybor City looks like everyone’s hometown.”
